Nissan Frontier YD25DDT (2005) and Proton Gen2 SP4H (2005) ~ OBD2 Compatible?

Creating this post just to remind me about the information that I collected in case I forget it in the future.

What is OBDII?
> OBD-II is a system used in automobiles to monitor various components of the vehicle, detect malfunctions, and store the information in the vehicle’s on-board computer to be recovered later by a service technician. OBD-II is an acronym for on-board diagnostics; the “II” denotes the second and most current version of this technology. (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-obd-ii.htm)

What do it looks like & location?
> Most OBDII slot would be located below the dashboard at driver side (Refer vehicle manual)

ODBII Pinout?

Popular cheap tools to read OBDII signal?
> ELM327 (Most OBDII Vehicle)
> ECUTALK (Mostly Nissan) / Nissan Consult

Bought ELM327 compatible OBD2 reader and test it on Nissan Frontier D22 YD25DDT (2005). Communication to ECU failed. Tried almost everything but failed. I decided to crawled under the dashboard and check.

Nissan Frontier D22 YD25DDT OBDII Pinout

And according to the ELM327 Pinout...

Connection TX(Transmit) and RX(Receive) to ECU missing. That is why the ELM327 refused to connect to ECU. This Nissan used different protocol and need INIT code send to ECU for the ECU to respond. From what I remember, the INIT code are 0xff,0xff,0xef. So, no hope for it to connect to ELM327.

For Proton Gen2 (A) 2005 Campro, the connection using my mobile is successful. I'm using n97 mini and the app OBDScope for symbian. But it only can scan for error code and read engine voltage. Connection using returned error (Using Scanmaster-ELM). Tried the scantool terminal, Switching the protocol but mostly ended with NO DATA. Some modified ELM327 reader in Malaysian market can read the code from proton. So this is the Proton Gen2 OBDII Pinout

Lastly the video to show you that some DIYed OBDII reader connected to proton..Check out his page (http://abumirza-myrobot.blogspot.com/)
