EGR Blank ~ Nissan Frontier/Navara D22

Hi all,

I've done EGR Blank to Nissan Frontier yesterday and the result is quite nice. The noticeable change is less black smoke.

So what is EGR and why do we have it?

The EGR is simply an emissions reducing measure. When the engine heats up excessively, nitrous oxide is produced and this is one of the worst emissions. To reduce this production, the engine temperature needs to be reduced and the EGR allows recirculated exhaust gas back into the inlet side of the engine. This is a continuous process happens more when the engine temp rises and help to reduce the operating temperature.

It does however, to differing degrees, make the engine less efficient and also curbs the maximum performance.

Some EGR applications can have the mapping of the valve changed to reduce the actuation, and others simply choose to block it off.

Blocking off is not possible on a petrol engine because of the MOT checks. But this is not the case on diesels and it certainly stops the gunge creation, as long as you are aware that the engine is producing more 'naughty' gasses than it was originally intended to.

So, where is the EGR Valve located in Nissan Frontier D22?

Where should you block it?

You need to remove two 14cm screw to pull up the original gasket.

In order to remove the screw (you wrench will not fit for the screw below), you need to move the alternator.

In order to move the alternator, loosen the number 2(in picture) screw a bit. Then, loosen the number 1 screw. Remove screw number 4 & 3. Remove screw number 2. This will take off the assembly completely. Then, push the alternator to the left, take off the belt and push the alternator to further right. You will have enough room for the wrench to take off the screw.

Note: Before you loosen the alternator screw, make sure you mark the screw placement for easier to re-tight the alternator belt.

Take off the original gasket(it should be easy). Put it on a thin metal plate and make a duplicate but leave the center hole alone. It should be done like this:-

Now, after you have satisfied with your fake gasket, it is time to put it back. Sandwich it together with the original gasket where the original gasket will facing front. Means, EGR Valve >> Original Gasket >> False Gasket. Then, reassemble back all the parts.

BTW, this is just a DIY guide and I will not take any responsibility but I've done mine without a problem. If you had done yours, let me know..^^
